What’s More than Academics? Emotional Intelligence!

In my journey as a teacher, a parent coach and a parent myself, I’ve often heard parents say they want their kids to be happy, pursue their passions, be kind to others and be successful in whatever brings them joy.

Sounds great!

And yet,

Many of us still place a significant emphasis on academic achievement which, if unchecked, could inadvertently steer our children away from our desired outcomes for their overall well-being.

Having problems finding the right balance?

I’ve made it a priority over the years to find the right balance which has led me to focus extensively on a fundamental pillar that shapes our children's well-being and future success.

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence, often underestimated, is the cornerstone of effective parenting. It equips us and our children with the tools to navigate life's challenges – teaching resilience, empathy, and the ability to forge harmonious relationships.

When we take the time to understand our children's emotions, we not only build trust and connection but also equip them with invaluable life skills.

Steps to Emotional Intelligence

  1. Emotional Awareness

It starts with us! How we respond to stress, conflicts, and daily challenges shapes their understanding of emotions.

By prioritising our own emotional well-being and modelling healthy coping mechanisms, we influence our children’s emotional landscape.
